Until five years ago, I was a full-blown trainer skeptic. Sure, I had the odd, eternally muddy pair for occasional gym sessions, hikes and long walks... But when it came to footwear fit for a fabulous outfit, trainers didn't even get a look in. Now, they're practically all I wear.
The reason behind my change of heart? I realised that chic-ness and comfort are not, in fact, mutually exclusive. High-end brands such as Loewe, Prada, Celine and Chloé have launched their own stylish trainer designs that have become wardrobe staples for all manner of fashion insiders – and look just as good when worn casually with jeans or nonchalantly contrasting with a super-luxe 'fit.
And there are some incredibly stylish options on the more affordable end of the scale, too. In honour of the nostalgia-filled Nineties and Noughties trend, sportswear brands such as Nike, Adidas and Asics have brought back some of their most classic designs with a contemporary twist. Styled with today's ubiquitous oversized tailoring, denim and 'quiet luxury' looks, a suede Samba or statement-hue Gazelle will add a serious dose of effortless cool – and their constantly sold-out status serves only to add to their allure.
Even the once-reviled 'dad trainers' are top of stylish women's wish-lists once more, having been recently adopted as the shoe of choice for off-duty supermodels such as Gigi Hadid and Kaia Gerber.
I've done the legwork and rounded up all of the most fashionable trainers of the moment, that will get you through this season (and beyond) in comfort and style. Trust me, you'll never look back.
