14 Best Silk Pillowcases To Help Improve Your Hair, Skin And Sleep
Did someone say beauty sleep?

Silk is synonymous with glamour: from slinky slip dresses to the chicest loungewear, it's a go-to fabric when you want to feel a little bit more luxurious. And it's no different when it comes to your interiors.
Investing in a silk pillowcase won't just add a touch of glamour to your bedroom – it'll also result in some serious beauty benefits for both your hair and skin.
Being slippier than cotton, a silk pillowcase makes for a really smooth surface for your head and face. As a result, this material causes less friction, which is believed to help prevent fine lines and wrinkles. It's also less absorbent than cotton, which has twofold benefits: it won't soak up so much oil and grime in between washes, keeping the surface cleaner (helpful especially for acne sufferers) and all of your skincare ingredients will stay right where they should – on your face.
The smooth surface is also kinder on your hair, causing less static and therefore keeping your curls or salon blow dry looking great for longer. And, let's face it, a silk pillowcase is just much comfier than cotton versions and will undeniably help us fall into a deeper slumber after a long day at work.
Here are our favourites at a glance:
What is Mulberry silk?
Simply put, Mulberry silk is up there with the best silk you can get. All silks are made from cocoons spun by silkworms. Mulberry silk in particular is made exclusively from silk spun by the silkworms of the Bombyx mori moths, which are fed on Mulberry leaves.
This gives the fabric a pure white colouring and creates much longer individual fibres than other kinds, making it a more refined product overall. Other silks, while still lovely, naturally may be made from shorter strands or less uniform in colour or texture.
What momme silk is best?
Well, it's not a case of 'best', and more a case of what your needs are. Unlike cotton, which is measured in thread count, silk products are measured by the weight of the material. The higher the momme, the heavier the silk – and usually, the higher the price. Most of the silk pillowcases we've found here are between 16 and 30 momme.
How do you wash silk pillowcases?
It's best not to stick your lovely silk pillowcase in your regular hot wash. Instead, put them inside a regular pillowcase (or a mesh delicates laundry bag) and wash on a cold or delicate cycle; no hotter than 30C. Hand washing is another good option. Of course, it's always a good idea to check the brand's recommendations on the particular silk pillowcase you've purchased.
